MEET THE LIBRARIAN
Hello! My name is Mia Nguyen, and I’m the librarian at Shadow Oaks Elementary. A little bit about myself - I love anything and everything about reading. There's nothing better than the feeling of getting lost in a really good book! My favorite genres are horror, mystery, fantasy, and adventure. Aside from reading, I’m also working on my goal of visiting all the national parks in America. My favorite so far is Denali National Park in Alaska!
I obtained my Bachelor’s in Teaching & Learning at the University of Houston, and I am currently working on my Master’s in Library Science at UHCL. I’ve taught pre-kindergarten for 3 years, but the library has always been my passion since I was little. I believe our beautiful library is the heart of our school. It is my goal to build a library that fosters growth, learning, and a joy for reading for our students, staff, and community.

ABOUT
our vision
Shadow Oaks Elementary aspires for our library to be an equitable environment that empowers our students to be avid readers, critical thinkers, skilled researchers, and global citizens who are prepared to be successful lifelong learners.
We aim to provide students the tools to become lifelong learners and productive citizens. By understanding the needs of our students, teachers, and the community, we can provide a foundation in future success through offering a strong library program that engages both students and the community. Our plan is to strengthen our connection with students by offering authentic and engaging learning opportunities in the library, increasing collaboration with classroom teachers, and inviting parents/guardians to become active participants in their child’s school community.
